Currency used in Tunisia
The Tunisian Dinar
Tunisia uses the Tunisian Dinar. It is subdivided into thousandths. When looking at at a price tag for 10 Tunisian Dinars, it would be written as 10,000. The most common abbreviation is DT (Dinar tunisien), though you may also find the word "dinar" written.
You can find 5, 10, 20, 30 and now 50 Dinar notes.
Be aware:
It is a criminal offence in Tunisia to import or export dinar. You will be required to get your currency upon arrival in Tunisia. However, there are many ATMs in Tunisia which work with most bank cards. Your other option would be Traveler's Cheques.
No more than 4000 Tunisian dinar can be converted into foreign currency before departure from the North-African country. Therefore, prices at duty-free shops are in convertible currencies like euros, US dollars and British pounds. It is necessary for anyone leaving Tunisia to declare any cash in their possession exceeding the equivalent of UK£500 beforehand.
