Arrival by Air

There are many flights into Tunisia on a daily basis. The two major airports are into Tunis and Monastir. Monastir airport seems to cater specifically to holiday-makers, and is located quite close to many resorts.

If you are looking to start your vacation in the capital city of Tunis, then you will want to look into direct flights to Tunis.

Getting around by train

Once you arrive in Tunisia, you have a few options for travel. The train system in Tunisia is quite efficient, and is modeled after the French system. You can easily make your way between Tunis, Hammamet, Sousse, Monastir, Mahdia, Sfax, Bizerte, and Dougga.

There are tourist train passes available which are great deals - known as the Carte Bleu - be sure to ask about these at the train station.

From Tunis to the north surburbs and beaches, Carthage, Sidi Bou Said, La Marsa take the TGM, an electric surburban line.

Bus Travel

The main towns in Tunisia are covered by coach services. These will be crowded during the summer months, especially on weekends. Otherwise, check local papers for times and schedules.

Car Rentals

You will find major car rental companies in Tunis and other large cities. Tunisian roads are good, with 30,000 kilometers of main roads, and 10, 000 kilometers of secondary roads. Service stations are located throughout the country.

Travel by Taxi and Metro

Within Tunis, travel is easy by metro/tramway. You can also take a metered taxi, which are inexpensive. Some taxis can be rented for long trips but be sure to discuss the fare first.
