Shopping in Tunisia

To haggle or not to haggle

Shopping in TunisiaThe shopping experience in Tunisia is different than many experiences in typical North American or Western European stores. In Tunisia, you are expected to haggle. It is not a stretch to say that all prices are inflated, with the expectation that you will haggle the price down.

This is quite challenging for first time hagglers, and even experienced ones. One option to avoid this is to visit a Fixed Price shop. The Tunisian tourist board developed these fixed price shops so tourists know there's a shop they can go to and not have to haggle prices.

It's worth it to remember one very large fixed price shop is just outside the large Medina of Sousse. Since the Sousse Medina can feel quite overwhelming quite quickly, with the aggressive sellers, tucking into the fixed price shop allows for a chance to catch your breath, and see maximum prices for some items.
